TOGO ENERGY MINISTER ANNOUNCED PLANS TO LAUNCH ELECTRIFICATION WORK ON 18 LOCALITIES

Togo Minister of Energy and Mines, Mawunyo Aziablé, proceeded on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Gbargou-Gbangbagou in the municipality of Tône 4, to launch electrification work on 18 localities in the Savannahs. In this case, she implanted the first electrical pole. This, as part of the implementation of the Savannah Area Emergency Program (PUR), which aims to strengthen the resilience of this part of the country facing the jihadist threat.

The initiative, it is said, aims to expand the electricity grid in this region of the country and stabilize the socio-economic and security situation in northern Congo. It complements the Project to install 50,000 autonomous and intelligent solar street lights launched by President Faure Gnassingbé in April 2023.

It should be noted that PURS requires, according to the government, a total envelope of FCFA 200 billion. Last February, the Togolese executive estimated at FCFA 150 billion, the cumulation of resources already mobilised from the technical and financial partners (PTF) in support of the program.

Earlier in 2022, FCFA 50 billion had been committed and had improved the rural runway network by 15 to 20%, providing 80,000 people with access to drinking water and an additional 15,000 households with electricity.
